Cellerix starts a multicenter trial for its medicine Cx601

Madrid, 25th May, 2009.- Cellerix, a product-focused biopharmaceutical company which develops innovative medicines based on cell therapy, has started a multicenter trial for its medicine Cx601.

This trial will be carried out with 24 patients with complex perianal fistulas with Crohn disease and it is expected that it will conclude by the end of 2009. The results are expected to be ready by the second semester of 2010.

Cx601 is part of a new generation of products based on expanded stem cells obtained from adipose tissue (eASCs) taken from donors (allogeneic origin). Cx601 is currently in Phase I/II and it is being developed for the local treatment of complex perianal fistulas in Crohn patients.

“The beginning o this trial opens a new treatment line for these patients, whose life quality is clearly deteriorated with the complications of this disease” has commented Guillermo Sellers, Cellerix’s VP Medical and Regulatory “this product and the beginning of this trial are a great milestone for Cellerix, and, at the same time, allow us to reinforce our pipeline”, he added.

Complex perianal fistulas is a first indication and it is expected to advance in the near future in other pathologies where this local treatment with expanded stem cells obtained from adipose tissue from allogeneic origin could become effective.
